Studio Etiquette

Our Studio Yoga Etiquette

Before Class

Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Proper hydration makes a big difference in how you feel during and after class, which is an essential aspect of yoga class guidelines. Try not to eat for 2 hours before class, but something light, like fruit, is acceptable. The studio opens 15 minutes prior to the start of class. Late admittance is strictly prohibited, and doors are locked when class begins. Being prompt is a key part of your practice; we start class on time. Students should be in the yoga room when the teacher enters and remain there until the teacher leaves. Upon entering the studio, please remove your shoes and leave them on the shoe rack. Ensure you have clean feet, and refrain from using fragrant body lotion, perfume, or cologne, as fellow students may be sensitive or allergic to scents. As part of the yoga studio rules, no watches, cell phones, purses, wallets, keys, or food are allowed in the yoga room. Pagers and cell phones are permitted in the yoga room ONLY if you are an on-call, emergency medical provider. Keep all personal belongings, such as keys and clothes, in the locker room. Only your mat, towel, and non-glass drink container are permitted in the yoga room. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Glass and/or gum are not allowed anywhere in the studio. If you appear to be intoxicated or high, you will be asked to leave for the safety of yourself and others. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

During Class: Have Fun!

Every yoga enthusiast should have a yoga mat and a large yoga towel to cover their mat. These essentials serve the purpose of catching your sweat and preventing it from saturating the studio floor. When lying on your mat, please ensure your whole body stays on both your mat and towel.

Bring your water in a stainless steel or plastic container, as glass is never permitted in our yoga studio. It's also important to respect the space of others; never move or step on another student’s mat or towel. If any adjustments are needed, always ask the teacher for assistance, adhering to proper yoga class guidelines.

Please refrain from throwing, dropping, or tossing your hand weights onto the floor, as this can damage the flooring. Maintain silence in the yoga room, being courteous to fellow classmates who arrive early to relax or meditate before the start of a class. Respect and enjoy the silence of the yoga room before, during, and after class, and feel free to ask questions in the lobby before or after classβ€”we’re more than happy to help.

Stay in the yoga room for the entire class, even if you’re just resting in savasana. If you feel lightheaded or dizzy, do not leave the yoga room unattended; instead, lie down and raise your hand to alert the teacher for assistance. It’s dangerous to exit the hot room by yourself; if you faint, no one will be there to help you.

If you need to vomit, leave quickly, but please return when you’re done. Try not to wipe your sweat, as it makes your body work harder to cool down. Embrace the sweat!

Avoid whining, complaining, grunting, audible sighs, or pouting. Focus only on positive thoughts and your breath. Please do not spit or blow your nose into your towel; that’s against our yoga studio rules. A tissue box is available on the front desk, so please bring some with you if needed. Soiled tissues should be kept between your towel and mat, NOT on the floor. Remember to properly dispose of your garbage after class, and keep these studio etiquette tips in mind to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone.

After Class

Please remain silent during the final savasana and as you exit the yoga room, as part of proper studio etiquette tips. If you rented a mat, kindly hang it over the ballet barre at the back of the room to maintain the yoga studio rules. Please limit your shower to 2 minutes to rinse off (count to 120) to ensure everyone has a chance to refresh. Teachers need to vacate and lock up the studio 30 minutes after class ends, so students must vacate the studio before the teacher leaves. Enjoy the peace and energy derived from class, and make a commitment to return tomorrow by following these yoga class guidelines. Change your body, change your mind, change your life!
