Owner Wendy Mosgrove, a professional ballerina from Hartford, Conn., who was trained as a workout instructor by Jane Fonda in 1981 after she moved to San Francisco, became interested in hot yoga 13 years ago when she agreed to accompany a friend to a studio in San Jose.
At the time, she suffered from insomnia, took medication for depression, and had limited neck movement as a result of an automobile accident. After 10 days of hot yoga, she was sleeping through the night, no longer required her medications, and had full range of motion.
“I knew it was going to change my life,” says Mosgrove, who was trained as an instructor a year later by Bikram Choudhury and opened her first studio in Morgan Hill in 2011. “It’s the same 26 postures, in a set sequence, but it’s never the same class because you’re never the same,” Mosgrove says. “The idea is to continually and systematically go deeper and deeper into each posture.” Mosgrove opened the Gilroy studio in 2015 and closed the Morgan Hill location in 2018. Best Yoga (bestyogastudios.com) is an independent, family-owned and operated studio.
“We are delighted that we can welcome customers again to a safe, clean studio for practicing hot yoga and Pilates,” Mosgrove says. “2020 was a difficult year for everyone, and we look forward to continuing to expand our services.”
Yoga unites the mind, body, and spirit in a way that eases tension, reduces inflammation, and promotes health and well-being. A regular practice will heal, correct posture and alignment, improve your physical and emotional well-being, and give you a deeper sense of peace and calm.
Hot Pilates is a high intensity interval training system designed to build strength, improve your glucose metabolism, burn fat, and increase your endurance. It's an energetic class paired with upbeat, fun music to inspire and keep you motivated. All classes are for all ages and all levels of ability. No experience is necessary. Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. "You're never too old, never too bad, never too late, and never too sick to do yoga and start from scratch once again."
Yoga is a great way to improve your endurance in other physical activities. After a run, or heavy workout, yoga will help your body relax while stretching, strengthening, and lengthening the muscles you were just working on. The hot yoga sequence stimulates the organs, glands, and nerves by moving fresh oxygenated blood to 100% of the body, restoring a natural balance to all of the body's systems. Flexibility, core-strength, and balance are just some of the benefits that practitioners can achieve, not to mention the increased mental clarity and stress-reducing benefits that are byproducts of this brilliant hot yoga series.
Hot Yoga and Hot Pilates not only helps improve your health and well-being, but also helps with mindfulness and meditation. It is important to take a break from daily life in order to focus on yourself and get clarity. Focusing on your breath during practice is key to staying in tune with your mind, body, and spirit. Yoga is NOT a religion, it is the union of our body, breath, and mind. It's a vehicle to healing, peace, and fully enjoying this challenging, beautiful life.
